For protection against vandals and pranksters, use the special tamper resistant nuts with carriage bolts. The square neck of the bolt forces into the standard round hole. The nuts cannot be removed without a special wrench.

Here's How It Works

Tufnut security nuts should be used with a standard CARRIAGE BOLT - or our special round headed TUFBOLT TM security bolt, which can be used on drilled metal surfaces.
A. Install TUFNUT® 1 finger tight B. Install TUFNUT® 2 so it's a half turn (1/2 turn) from 1 and tighten or loosen by inserting wrench or vicegrip between TUFNUTS® then turning both nuts.
C. Remove TUFNUT® 2 leaving property secured

The angular sides of the TUFNUT make it impossible to grasp, while its case-hardened surface stops all other hand tools. By increasing the risk of discovery, TUFNUT forces the thief to leave your property where it belongs.

TUFBOLT SECURITY BOLTS - V-TB25 - The TUFNUT should be used with either our TUFBOLT security bolt or a standard CARRIAGE BOLT. The TUFBOLT is designed for use with drilled metal signs, and has no square neck beneath its round head, so it won't damage the sign face upon fastening. 5/16" x 2 1/2" length.

TUFBOLT WASHERS - V-TBW31 - Protect the sign face from abrasion, while also resisting the turning of the TUFBOLT. 5/16" ID x 1" OD - White Nylon.

TUFNUT WASHERS - V-TW31 - are designed to fit beneath the broad base of the TUFNUT to protect surfaces from abrasion. 5/16" ID x 1 1/2" OD - White Nylon.
