The Cater Lee Distinguished Scholar Award for Engineering Study - $ 8,400.00.
This award is named in honor of
Cater Lee, Founder and Board Chairman of Vulcan, Inc. Only one recipient may be
selected each year.
After serving as an Army Air Corps Officer in World War II and the
Korean Conflict, Mr. Lee was employed as Plant Manager with Vulcans predecessor . .
. National Safety Engineers in Birmingham. He progressed to General Manager
when, in 1966, Vulcan Signs and Stampings, Inc. was formed, with Mr. Lee as
its first president.
Soon thereafter, the company was moved to Foley, Alabama and later
renamed Vulcan, Inc. Mr. Lee served as President and Board Chairman during a period
of significant expansion and acquisition by the company. In 1969, he initiated the Foley
High School Top 10 Academic Banquet and was instrumental in the establishment of a
similar program at Robertsdale High School.
Vulcan Scholar Awards - $ 6,000.00
Two Vulcan Scholar Awards are available each year.
Award Requirements
A candidate for the Vulcan Scholarship Award must meet each of several criteria. To be
considered for the award, a candidate shall be:
- Graduating Senior at Foley, Gulf Shores or Robertsdale High School;
- Admitted in an acceptable four-year Engineering curriculum at an ABET accredited university;
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the discipline of engineering;
- Demonstrate a financial need for the scholarship; and
- Not related to any Selection Committee Member of Vulcan Scholarships, Inc.
Application
To apply for the scholarship, a candidate must submit a completed
official application along with an official High School Transcript. A full disclosure of
current student loans or other financial aid must be included in the application.
Applications may be obtained from faculty members at Foley,
Gulf Shores or
Robertsdale High School about mid-February of each year. Completed applications must be
submitted to Vulcan Scholarships, Inc, PO Box 1850, Foley, AL 36536.
Candidate Evaluations
The Foundation Selection Committees review each application and
evaluates each candidate based on the following categories:
- Academic Achievement
- Career Objectives
- Financial Need
- Leadership Activities
- Extracurricular Activities
- Personal Interview
Recipients Requirements
To receive Scholarship payments, the recipient must remain enrolled in a fully
accredited Engineering curriculum and must provide to the Foundations Treasurer the
following information each grading period:
- Confirmation of enrollment:
- Confirmation of course schedule; and
- Copy of prior grading period grades.
Upon receipt of the required information, Scholarship award payments
are made at the start of each academic period to the institution for credit to the
recipients account.
